Segment is a customer data platform. Advanced Form Integration sends form submissions to Segment, so every form entry on your WordPress site can create or update records automatically without manual data entry.

What you’ll need

  • An active Segment account.
  • An API key from Segment (see below).
  • The Advanced Form Integration plugin installed and activated.

Get your Segment API key

Segment authenticates with an API key.

  1. Sign in to your Segment account.
  2. Navigate to the API or integrations section in your account settings.
  3. Generate or copy your API Key.
  4. In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings → Segment, click Add New Account, and paste the key.

Connect Segment to AFI

  1. In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings and open the Segment tab.
  2. Click Add New Account and paste the API key or token.
  3. Give the account a name you will recognise.
  4. Click Save.

Create the integration

  1. Go to AFI → Add New.
  2. Give the integration a name, for example Form to Segment.
  3. Under Trigger, pick the form plugin and the specific form you want to listen on.
  4. Under Action → Platform, select Segment.
  5. In Task, choose Track Event.
  6. Pick the saved account in the Segment Account dropdown.
  7. Map your form fields onto the Segment fields listed below.
  8. Optional: open Conditional Logic to limit which submissions are sent.
  9. Click Save Integration.

Tasks supported

Track Event

Tracks an event in the analytics platform from the form submission.

Field Field key Required Notes
User ID (email works well userId No At least one of User ID / leave blank for an auto-generated anonymous ID
Event Name eventName No e.g. “Form Submitted”
Email email Yes
First Name firstName Yes
Last Name lastName Yes

Pro features

The Pro integration extends the free base with additional field mapping, custom field support, and other enhancements. Pro uses the same connection and tasks as the free version, so your existing integrations keep working.

Feature Free Pro
Standard tasks
Standard field mapping
Custom field mapping Limited
Additional task variants Limited

Conditional logic example

Only send data to Segment when the form’s email field is not empty, so test submissions or incomplete entries do not create records. Add a condition: Email is not empty.

Troubleshooting

Nothing arrives in Segment

Open AFI → Log and find the most recent entry for this integration. AFI stores the request it sent and the raw response it got back. If there is no log entry at all, the trigger never fired: re-check the form selection and submit a real test entry from the front end.

API key rejected

Copy the key directly from Segment with no leading or trailing spaces. If the key was revoked or regenerated, update it in AFI → Settings → Segment.
