How to Send Charitable Data to SendGrid
SendGrid is a email delivery platform for managing subscribers and campaigns. Charitable handles a donation is made through a fundraising campaign on your WordPress site. SendGrid is where that data needs to go. Here is how to connect them without Zapier or code.
Why not just use Zapier?
For connecting Charitable to email delivery, a cloud automation service adds cost and a dependency on an external server. AFI runs on your site with no task limits.
What you will need
- A WordPress site with Charitable installed and configured.
- A SendGrid account.
- The Advanced Form Integration plugin (free from WordPress.org).
Connect SendGrid to AFI
- Log in to your SendGrid account.
- Go to Settings → API Keys and create a key.
- In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings → SendGrid.
- Paste the API Key and click Save Changes.
Setting up the integration
1. Create a new integration
Go to AFI → Add New. Name it Charitable to SendGrid.
2. Pick your trigger
Select Charitable as the form provider. AFI fires when a donation is made through a fundraising campaign, giving you access to donor name, email, donation amount, campaign ID, and gateway.
3. Select SendGrid as the destination
Choose SendGrid from the platform dropdown and pick Add Contact. This adds a contact to a SendGrid list.
4. Map fields
Match each SendGrid field on the left to the corresponding Charitable field on the right. Common mappings include donor name, email, donation amount, campaign ID, and gateway. You can also use smart tags like {{_submission_date}}.
5. Add conditions if needed
Only want to send certain records? Set up a conditional rule based on any field value.
6. Save and test
Click Save Integration. Trigger a test event in Charitable. Check SendGrid to confirm the data arrived. If anything looks wrong, open AFI → Log to see the exact request and response.
Free vs Pro
The free version maps email and name to SendGrid with unlimited records. Pro adds custom field mapping. No per-record fees on any plan.
Frequently asked questions
Which Charitable events trigger the integration?
AFI fires when a donation is made through a fundraising campaign. This covers new submissions and relevant status changes.
Will adding this slow down my site?
No. AFI sends data to the destination after the event completes. Your site performance is not affected.
Can I send data to multiple platforms?
Yes. Create a separate integration for each destination, and every record flows to all of them simultaneously.
