dotdigital is a marketing automation platform. BuddyPress powers your WordPress community. dotdigital is where member data needs to go. Here is how to connect them without Zapier or code.

Why connect directly?

Cloud automation tools like Zapier charge per task and route your data through external servers. AFI processes everything on your WordPress site. No per-registration fees, no external dependencies.

What you will need

  • A WordPress site with BuddyPress installed and configured.
  • A dotdigital account.
  • The Advanced Form Integration plugin (free from WordPress.org).

Connect dotdigital to AFI

  1. Log in to your dotdigital account.
  2. Go to Settings → API and copy your API User and Password.
  3. In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings → dotdigital.
  4. Enter the credentials and region, then click Save.

Setting up the integration

1. Create a new integration

Go to AFI → Add New. Name it BuddyPress to dotdigital.

2. Pick your trigger

Select BuddyPress as the form provider. AFI fires when a member registers, updates their profile, or joins a group, giving you access to member details, profile fields, and activity data.

3. Select dotdigital as the destination

Choose dotdigital from the platform dropdown and pick Add Contact. This adds a contact to dotdigital.

4. Map fields

Match each dotdigital field on the left to the corresponding BuddyPress field on the right. Common mappings include member name, email, profile data, and activity type. You can also use smart tags like {{_submission_date}}.

5. Add conditions if needed

Only want to send certain activities? Set up a conditional rule based on any field value.

6. Save and test

Click Save Integration. Trigger a test a member registers, updates their profile, or joins a group in BuddyPress. Check dotdigital to confirm the data arrived. If anything looks wrong, open AFI → Log to see the exact request and response.

Free vs Pro

The free version maps email and name to dotdigital with unlimited events. Pro adds custom field mapping. No per-event fees on any plan.
