How to Send BuddyPress Data to ActiveCampaign
ActiveCampaign is a CRM and email marketing that helps you manage contacts and track interactions. If you want BuddyPress activity in ActiveCampaign, you could pay for a cloud automation service. Or you could do it directly from WordPress. This is the direct route.
Why not just use Zapier?
For connecting your community platform to CRM and email marketing, a cloud automation service adds cost and a dependency on an external server. AFI runs on your site with no task limits.
What you will need
- A WordPress site with BuddyPress installed and configured.
- A ActiveCampaign account.
- The Advanced Form Integration plugin (free from WordPress.org).
Connect ActiveCampaign to AFI
- Log in to your Active Campaign account.
- Go to Settings → Developer and copy your API URL and Key.
- In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings → ActiveCampaign.
- Enter the API URL and Key, then click Save.
Setting up the integration
1. Create a new integration
Go to AFI → Add New. Name it BuddyPress to ActiveCampaign.
2. Pick your trigger
Select BuddyPress as the form provider. AFI fires when a member registers, updates their profile, or joins a group, giving you access to member details, profile fields, and activity data.
3. Select ActiveCampaign as the destination
Choose ActiveCampaign from the platform dropdown and pick Add Contact. This creates or updates a contact in Active Campaign.
4. Map fields
Match each ActiveCampaign field on the left to the corresponding BuddyPress field on the right. Common mappings include member name, email, profile data, and activity type. You can also use smart tags like {{_submission_date}}.
5. Add conditions if needed
Only want to send certain activities? Set up a conditional rule based on any field value.
6. Save and test
Click Save Integration. Trigger a test a member registers, updates their profile, or joins a group in BuddyPress. Check ActiveCampaign to confirm the data arrived. If anything looks wrong, open AFI → Log to see the exact request and response.
Free vs Pro
The free version maps email, first name, and last name to ActiveCampaign with unlimited events. Pro adds custom field mapping and list assignment. No per-event fees on any plan.
Frequently asked questions
Which BuddyPress events trigger the integration?
AFI fires when a member registers, updates their profile, or joins a group. This covers member registrations, profile updates, and group joins.
Will adding this slow down my site?
No. AFI sends data to the destination after the community event completes. Your members are not affected.
Can I send member data to multiple platforms?
Yes. Create a separate integration for each destination, and every event flows to all of them simultaneously.
