How to Send BuddyBoss Data to Intercom
Intercom is a customer messaging platform. Member events can trigger instant notifications. Here is how to pipe BuddyBoss data straight into Intercom using Advanced Form Integration. The setup takes about five minutes and runs entirely on your own server.
The direct approach
AFI delivers member and activity data straight from WordPress to Intercom. No third-party cloud, no per-task fees, and every request is logged for troubleshooting.
What you will need
- A WordPress site with BuddyBoss installed and configured.
- A Intercom account.
- The Advanced Form Integration plugin (free from WordPress.org).
Connect Intercom to AFI
- Log in to your Intercom workspace.
- Go to Settings → API Keys and copy your Access Token.
- In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings → Intercom.
- Paste the Access Token and click Save Changes.
Setting up the integration
1. Create a new integration
Go to AFI → Add New. Name it BuddyBoss to Intercom.
2. Pick your trigger
Select BuddyBoss as the form provider. AFI fires when a member registers, updates their profile, or joins a group, giving you access to member details, profile fields, and activity data.
3. Select Intercom as the destination
Choose Intercom from the platform dropdown and pick Add Contact. This creates or updates a contact in Intercom.
4. Map fields
Match each Intercom field on the left to the corresponding BuddyBoss field on the right. Common mappings include member name, email, profile data, and activity type. You can also use smart tags like {{_submission_date}}.
5. Add conditions if needed
Only want to send certain activities? Set up a conditional rule based on any field value.
6. Save and test
Click Save Integration. Trigger a test a member registers, updates their profile, or joins a group in BuddyBoss. Check Intercom to confirm the data arrived. If anything looks wrong, open AFI → Log to see the exact request and response.
Free vs Pro
The free version maps email and name to Intercom with unlimited events. Pro adds custom attributes and company assignment. No per-event fees on any plan.
Frequently asked questions
Which BuddyBoss events trigger the integration?
AFI fires when a member registers, updates their profile, or joins a group. This covers member registrations, profile updates, and group joins.
Will adding this slow down my site?
No. AFI sends data to the destination after the community event completes. Your members are not affected.
Can I send member data to multiple platforms?
Yes. Create a separate integration for each destination, and every event flows to all of them simultaneously.
