Segment is a customer data platform. If you want bbPress activity in Segment, you could pay for a cloud automation service. Or you could do it directly from WordPress. This is the direct route.

Why not just use Zapier?

For connecting your community platform to customer data, a cloud automation service adds cost and a dependency on an external server. AFI runs on your site with no task limits.

What you will need

  • A WordPress site with bbPress installed and configured.
  • A Segment account.
  • The Advanced Form Integration plugin (free from WordPress.org).

Connect Segment to AFI

  1. Get your Segment Write Key.
  2. In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings → Segment.
  3. Paste the Write Key.
  4. Click Save Changes.

Setting up the integration

1. Create a new integration

Go to AFI → Add New. Name it bbPress to Segment.

2. Pick your trigger

Select bbPress as the form provider. AFI fires when a user creates a topic or replies in a forum, giving you access to member details, profile fields, and activity data.

3. Select Segment as the destination

Choose Segment from the platform dropdown and pick Identify User. This identifies a user in Segment.

4. Map fields

Match each Segment field on the left to the corresponding bbPress field on the right. Common mappings include member name, email, profile data, and activity type. You can also use smart tags like {{_submission_date}}.

5. Add conditions if needed

Only want to send certain activities? Set up a conditional rule based on any field value.

6. Save and test

Click Save Integration. Trigger a test a user creates a topic or replies in a forum in bbPress. Check Segment to confirm the data arrived. If anything looks wrong, open AFI → Log to see the exact request and response.

Free vs Pro

The free version maps user ID, email, and traits to Segment with unlimited events. Pro adds custom trait mapping. No per-event fees on any plan.

Frequently asked questions

Which bbPress events trigger the integration?

AFI fires when a user creates a topic or replies in a forum. This covers member registrations, profile updates, and group joins.

Will adding this slow down my site?

No. AFI sends data to the destination after the community event completes. Your members are not affected.

Can I send member data to multiple platforms?

Yes. Create a separate integration for each destination, and every event flows to all of them simultaneously.

Install Advanced Form Integration free from WordPress.org and connect bbPress to Segment in minutes.
