How to Send LearnDash Enrollments to SendGrid
SendGrid is a email delivery platform for managing subscribers and campaigns. LearnDash handles a student enrolls in a course or completes a lesson on your WordPress site. SendGrid is where that data needs to go. Here is how to connect them without Zapier or code.
Why not just use Zapier?
For connecting your LMS to email delivery, a cloud automation service adds cost and a dependency on an external server. AFI runs on your site with no task limits.
What you will need
- A WordPress site with LearnDash installed and at least one course.
- A SendGrid account.
- The Advanced Form Integration plugin (free from WordPress.org).
Connect SendGrid to AFI
- Log in to your SendGrid account.
- Go to Settings → API Keys and create a key.
- In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings → SendGrid.
- Paste the API Key and click Save Changes.
Setting up the integration
1. Create a new integration
Go to AFI → Add New. Name it LearnDash to SendGrid.
2. Pick your trigger
Select LearnDash as the form provider. AFI fires when a student enrolls in a course or completes a lesson, giving you access to student details, course information, and enrollment data.
3. Select SendGrid as the destination
Choose SendGrid from the platform dropdown and pick Add Contact. This adds a contact to a SendGrid list.
4. Map fields
Match each SendGrid field on the left to the corresponding LearnDash field on the right. Common mappings include student name, email, course title, and enrollment date. You can also use smart tags like {{_submission_date}}.
5. Add conditions if needed
Only want to send certain enrollments? Set up a conditional rule based on any field value.
6. Save and test
Click Save Integration. Complete a test enrollment in LearnDash. Check SendGrid to confirm the data arrived. If anything looks wrong, open AFI → Log to see the exact request and response.
Free vs Pro
The free version maps email and name to SendGrid with unlimited enrollments. Pro adds custom field mapping. No per-enrollment fees on any plan.
Frequently asked questions
Which LearnDash events trigger the integration?
AFI fires when a student enrolls in a course or completes a lesson. This covers new enrollments, course completions, and student registrations.
Will adding this slow down my site?
No. AFI sends data to the destination after the enrollment event completes. Your students are not affected.
Can I send enrollments to multiple platforms?
Yes. Create a separate integration for each destination, and every enrollment flows to all of them simultaneously.
