How to Send LearnDash Enrollments to Mailgun
Mailgun is a email delivery platform for managing subscribers and campaigns. If you want LearnDash data in Mailgun, you could pay for a cloud automation service. Or you could do it directly from WordPress. This is the direct route.
Why connect directly?
Cloud automation tools like Zapier charge per task and route your data through external servers. AFI processes everything on your WordPress site. No per-enrollment fees, no external dependencies.
What you will need
- A WordPress site with LearnDash installed and at least one course.
- A Mailgun account.
- The Advanced Form Integration plugin (free from WordPress.org).
Connect Mailgun to AFI
- Log in to your Mailgun account.
- Go to Settings → API Keys and copy your Private API Key.
- In WordPress, go to AFI → Settings → Mailgun.
- Enter your domain and API Key, then click Save.
Setting up the integration
1. Create a new integration
Go to AFI → Add New. Name it LearnDash to Mailgun.
2. Pick your trigger
Select LearnDash as the form provider. AFI fires when a student enrolls in a course or completes a lesson, giving you access to student details, course information, and enrollment data.
3. Select Mailgun as the destination
Choose Mailgun from the platform dropdown and pick Add Mailing List Member. This adds a member to a Mailgun mailing list.
4. Map fields
Match each Mailgun field on the left to the corresponding LearnDash field on the right. Common mappings include student name, email, course title, and enrollment date. You can also use smart tags like {{_submission_date}}.
5. Add conditions if needed
Only want to send certain enrollments? Set up a conditional rule based on any field value.
6. Save and test
Click Save Integration. Complete a test enrollment in LearnDash. Check Mailgun to confirm the data arrived. If anything looks wrong, open AFI → Log to see the exact request and response.
Free vs Pro
The free version maps email and name to Mailgun with unlimited enrollments. Pro adds custom field mapping. No per-enrollment fees on any plan.
Frequently asked questions
Which LearnDash events trigger the integration?
AFI fires when a student enrolls in a course or completes a lesson. This covers new enrollments, course completions, and student registrations.
Will adding this slow down my site?
No. AFI sends data to the destination after the enrollment event completes. Your students are not affected.
Can I send enrollments to multiple platforms?
Yes. Create a separate integration for each destination, and every enrollment flows to all of them simultaneously.
